What You Can't Throw in a Dumpster in Pittsburgh, PA

Most household and construction debris is fair game, but a few items are off-limits under Pennsylvania waste rules. Tossing the wrong thing in a roll-off can lead to fines, fees, or refused pickup at the Allegheny or Westmoreland County transfer station.

Hazardous materials are the big one: paint, solvents, oil, gasoline, propane tanks, batteries, and chemicals. These need to go to an Allegheny County household chemical collection event or a certified hazardous waste facility.

Tires, refrigerants (anything still in an unrecovered fridge or AC), and medical waste are also restricted. We can take appliances and refrigerators across the Mon Valley, but the refrigerant has to be reclaimed first.

Wet paint is restricted, but fully dried paint (or paint mixed with hardener/kitty litter) is usually fine. When in doubt, ask before you load it in.

We're happy to walk through your debris list before drop-off — that's part of why people from Pittsburgh, McKeesport, and Monongahela choose a local company over the big national haulers.
